Law enforcement officers take out a large Mexican methamphetamine network operating in Oklahoma. Officers served 30 arrest warrants at several locations throughout the central part of the state on Monday. It was part of a year-long joint undercover investigation conducted by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations. Officers served the majority of the warrants in Oklahoma County.
"Last summer, we identified a large group of individuals bringing significant quantities of Mexican-produced methamphetamine into central Oklahoma for distribution," said Mark Woodward, OBN Spokesman. "These shipments would include as much as 10 pounds of meth each week. So, this network was considered a major supplier of meth throughout central Oklahoma."
During the year-long investigation, Woodward said agents targeted and identified those tied to the meth network. Woodward said the group brought meth shipments into the state and would then divide and re-sell smaller shipments in several communities including Oklahoma City, Norman, Edmond, Anadarko and Watonga.
"This is a tremendous organization which we have infiltrated and investigated along with our partners at Homeland Security Investigation," said Darrell Weaver, OBN Director. "We have used covert operations to penetrate a very significant group of drug violators which has made countless amounts of money while distributing their addictive substance."
So far, 17 defendants have been arrested and transported to the Oklahoma County Jail. All defendants face a variety of charges including conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine.
