MANNFORD, Oklahoma -

A motorcycle rider killed in a crash near Mannford on Wednesday was on his way home to check on one of his children when it happened.

Jared Stanley, 39, was slowing down to turn left turn onto a private drive yesterday morning when he was hit by an SUV from behind.

Stanley's former wife said he had left work and was heading home to check on one of their four children.  A co-worker says Stanley had heard one of his daughters had broken her arm.

Stanley worked at Total Energy Resources in Sand Springs as a welder.  He was originally from Baldwin City, Kansas where his two younger sisters still live.

Stanley's former wife, Anna, says the couple divorced after 14 years of marriage but remained very close.  "He made friends wherever he went.  He was just an all around pretty damn decent guy."

Anna says they moved to Oklahoma in 2006 to be closer to his parents and so that he could attend welding school in Tulsa.

The couple has four children; daughters aged 15, 13 and 10, and a 9-year-old son.  Anna says the family is still planning the funeral and hasn't had time to decide what to do next.

Stanley hadn't worked at his job long enough to qualify for insurance.  The company is taking donations on the family's behalf.  Send donations to:
