STILLWATER, Oklahoma -
The Reverend Jesse Jackson is expected to visit Stillwater Thursday for a public forum on the conviction of former Oklahoma State basketball player Darrell Williams.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced Friday on two counts of rape by instrumentation.
A Payne County jury convicted him July 23rd and recommended a year in prison on each count.
The Oklahoma State University chapter of the NAACP became involved because Williams' supporters believe race was a factor in the outcome. Williams is black; his two accusers are white and there were no black jurors.
Supporters began a social media campaign to request an appeal.
Jackson will be one of several speakers at a forum scheduled to run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stillwater.
The church is located at 902 South Knoblock.
