PAYNE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations is looking into the possible suicide of a Cushing man following a traffic stop in Payne County.

The Payne County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI's help to investigate the death of 27-year-old Clinton Craig Blakely.

According to the sheriff's office, a county deputy tried to stop Blakely in his pickup truck at approximately 9:30 Tuesday night on Highway 33, five miles east of Perkins after he ran a red light.

The deputy said Blakely refused to stop, so he along with a Perkins police officer set up a road block. As Blakely slowed down, officials told him to get out of his truck. Instead, the deputy said Blakely drove toward him, so the deputy fired several times at the truck's tires, stopping the truck.

As the officers approached the truck, they said they noticed Blakely had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A gun was also found in the cab of the vehicle. An ambulance transported Blakely to a Stillwater hospital where he died.

The medical examiner's office will determine Blakely's cause and manner of death.
