City Opens New Public CNG Fueling Station In West Tulsa

The city of Tulsa has officially opened a public CNG fueling station at the city's westside maintenance yard.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett was on hand for the ceremony in the 400 block of West 23rd Street Friday morning.

The new high-speed CNG fueling station is located next to the city of Tulsa's own CNG fueling station in the maintenance yard.

Tulsa built a high-speed CNG station at its maintenance yard last year for fueling the city's growing fleet of CNG vehicles.

Now, Mayor Bartlett says the general public can purchase compressed natural gas and pay with credit cards at the new pump islands.

Bartlett says the City of Tulsa is gradually replacing gasoline and diesel vehicles with CNG vehicles in its internal fleet.

Tulsa's new trash-hauling contractor, New Solutions, will be using many new CNG trucks in its operations.

Tulsa Transit's CNG fleet is also growing. It has 15 large fixed-route CNG buses and 37 smaller CNG buses and vans for its Lift program. It will add seven more large CNG buses next year.

The City of Tulsa will host a CNG summit at the University of Oklahoma Schusterman Center on September 19th.

Organizers say businesses and governments will learn about environmental benefits and saving money by converting their fleets to CNG.
