Shock Grab Third Consecutive Win, Down New York 78-66
TULSA, Oklahoma -
The Tulsa Shock may not be the best team in the WNBA, but the improvement this season from the past two seasons has been extremely measurable.
The Shock won their third straight game Thursday night, 78-66 over the New York Liberty, the longest winning streak for the Shock since the franchise relocated to Tulsa from Detroit.
The win also gave Tulsa nine wins for the season, which matches the total of wins for the last two seasons combined.
Tameka Johnson had a career high 26 points for Tulsa, shooting 10-12 from the field, including 4-5 from three point distance. Ivory Latta chipped in 13 points for the Shock off the bench.
The Shock led the entire way, sans an early 4-3 Liberty lead in the first quarter.
Kara Braxton, Plenette Pierson and Cappie Pondexter each scored 14 points to lead the Liberty offense. Despite the loss, New York clinched the fourth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, thanks to Chicago's loss to Atlanta.
