A 20-year-old man was arrested for murder after his mother was found stabbed in front of a Tulsa home on Friday afternoon.

Police arrested her son, William "Matt" Stick, hours later at a Tulsa church.

TPD Sgt. Dave Walker said 43-year-old Veronica Stick was discovered by a service worker around 3:30 p.m. at the base of the porch of a residence in the 3600 block of East 24th Street.

She was transported by EMSA to a Tulsa area hospital with a stab wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead around 4 p.m.

It is the city's 38th homicide of 2012.

Investigators found Matt Stick's vehicle abandoned in the 3600 block of South Peoria Avenue. Police maintained surveillance of the area and arrested him around 8 p.m. at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. Veronica Stick is listed on the All Souls website as an administrative assistant. According to a Facebook page attributed to Matt Stick, he is also employed by All Souls.

When Matt Stick was taken into custody, he had an apparent blood stain on his blue jeans, the arrest report says.

He was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a first-degree murder complaint and assault and battery on a police officer.

While police were walking Matt Stick to a transport vehicle, he reportedly kicked an officer in the knee and refused to follow the officer's commands to walk forward. The officer took Matt Stick "to the ground using only that amount of force required to stop the subject's aggression," the arrest report says.

Matt Stick then agreed to cooperate and was transported to jail without further incident, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and police said they have not learned enough to speculate on any motive.
