TULSA, Oklahoma -

The A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Foundation gave $6 million to the OU Tulsa's Oklahoma School of Community Medicine Wednesday.

The money will be used to establish a Medical Simulation Center to help students practice lifelike circumstances, using models or virtual reality.

OU's President said the new center will help advance the safety of health care across the region.

"We will have, in essence, robots - life-size children, men and women – that are programmed to act just like human beings," David Boren said. "It's been found, when you have a simulation center like this, it greatly improves medical care and reduces medical mistakes."

The new center will be in the old Hartford Building and is expected to be complete by 2015.
