Oklahoma City Takes Down Sixers In Overtime

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -

Mere hours after a classic Bedlam contest was settled in overtime in Norman, the Oklahoma City Thunder decided to get in on the overtime fun.

Oklahoma City struggled to put away a pesky, undermanned Philadelphia 76ers squad on the road but stepped up big in the extra period to propel the Thunder to a 116-109 victory.

And the Thunder put this game away in exciting fashion with a barrage of makes from behind the 3-point line.

Kevin Durant set the tone early in the overtime period, pulling up with only a sliver of an opening to drill a deep 3-pointer for a 103-100 lead.

Just moments later, Kevin Martin sank a 3 of his own for a 106-100 advantage.

After a pair of made free throws by the 76ers, Russell Westbrook took a kick-out pass and spotted up from deep, sinking the Thunder's third 3-pointer.

Philly's Jrue Holiday sank a jumper on the other end but Oklahoma City was not to be denied as Thabo Sefolosha sank another 3 on OKC's ensuing possession and sent Sixers fans heading for the exits as OKC outscored Philly 18-11 in OT.

Durant led all scorers with 37 points in 10-for-22 shooting and 15-for-17 from the foul line. He also added eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Westbrook also dropped a cool 30 points on 11-for-23 shooting with nine assists and five boards.

The only other two Thunder players in double figures were Serge Ibaka with 18 points and nine rebounds and Nick Collison with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Martin had his second straight poor shooting performance with six points on just 2-for-9 from the floor and 1-for-5 from 3, but that 3 couldn't have come at a better time for Oklahoma City during its game-winning spurt.

Thaddeus Young led Philadelphia with 29 points and Evan Turner added 26 for the 76ers, who fell to 7-6 with the loss.

Oklahoma City improved to 10-4 on the season and lead the Northwest Division by 2.5 games. The Thunder return to Chesapeake Energy Arena on Monday for a 7 p.m. game against the Charlotte Bobcats.
