EDMOND, Oklahoma -
Planning commissioners have denied an application for a permit to build a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at the corner of Coffee Creek Road and Kelly Avenue in Edmond.
The commissioners rejected on Wednesday the specific-use permit by a vote of four to one. Hundreds of people opposed to construction of the store filled the meeting.
Edmond city council members will make the final decision on the application on Monday. Many homeowners in the area are fighting construction of the 24-hour market, saying it would increase traffic and disrupt harmony in the neighborhood.
