There are hundreds of small businesses in Tulsa, but not many are owned and operated by teenagers.
A Union High School freshman has turned her love for fashion into a business.
Fifteen-year-old Shay Finch has a small boutique called Splash of Fash in The Market on the southeast corner of 81st and Harvard.
Her mom is her one and only employee.
"She does all of the buying all the merchandising and most of the customer service," said Shay's mother, Sherri Finch. "She's very passionate about it, and we're supportive, because it a great learning experience."
Shay has two booth spaces in The Market. The Market is a home interior and fashion mall with more than 100 vendors.
Her specialty is fashion and accessories.
Shay said she keeps her eyes open for the hottest trends on the Internet, social media, and in magazines.
She said leggings that double as shapewear are on trend this season.
"They make the woman look great. They're very slenderizing, they look great under, like, tunics," Shay said.
She told me big sweaters are in for this winter, too. And she offers all kinds of jewelry, purses, scarves—whatever you'd need to put an outfit together.
"We'll help them pick out clothing, jewelry, and we'll give them tips on when they go home, what shoes they should put on with it," Shay said.
Splash of Fash has been in business for about a year and Shay said she's developing some regular customers and doing something she loves.
What's better than that for a 15-year-old entrepreneur?
