OKEMAH, Oklahoma -

Calling it one of the saddest cases he's ever experienced, an Okfuskee County judge ruled Tuesday there is enough evidence for Kevin Sweat to go to trial.

Sweat is accused of killing two young girls near Weleetka in 2008.

The court heard from Kevin Sweat for the first time Tuesday.

Sweat is charged with killing Skyla Whitaker and Taylor Placker on a dirt road in rural Okfuskee County. Their bodies were found less than 1,000 feet from Placker's home.

Prosecutors played a videotaped interview between Sweat and an OSBI detective.

For more than two hours Sweat denies any involvement in the murders, only saying the details he knows came from a relative of Taylor Placker, who testified she never told Sweat anything about the crime scene.

At one point in the OSBI interview, Sweat says, "If I was there, I sure as hell don't remember," then adding, "I'm not going to confess to something I didn't do."

He eventually tells the investigator that maybe it was mental illness or a blackout or demonic possession that led him to do it.

The investigator keeps pushing and Sweat finally says he had stopped on that dirt road to use the bathroom, then saw the girls walking toward him.

He says he wasn't on drugs or alcohol, but that he thought the girls were monsters out to get him, so he shot them several times with two different handguns.

The detective who interviewed Sweat told the judge he found bullets and shell casings at Sweat's house, as well as his father's house, that matched the shell casings found at the crime scene.

Prosecutors and Kevin Sweat's attorneys declined to comment.

Sweat is also charged with killing his girlfriend.
