Cowgirls Fall To West Virginia

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls suffered a surprising home loss on Tuesday night at the hands of West Virginia, falling 67-61 in Stillwater.

The No. 19 Cowgirls lost for the second time in seven days and dropped to 4-4 in Big 12 play overall.

OSU trailed by eight at halftime and the lead swelled to as much as 13 in the second half before the Cowgirls rallied but ultimately fell short.

The Cowgirls outshot the Mountaineers 42.2 percent to 38.5 percent but WVU owned the transition game, outscoring OSU 11-2 in fast-break points. WVU also owned the 3-point line, making 9-of-20 while OSU converted just 1-of-7 on the night.

Toni Young and Tiffany Bias led OSU with 15 points each, while Kendra Suttles added 11 and Liz Donohoe chipped in 10. Bias shot a decent 5-of-8 from the field but turned the ball over 11 times as the Cowgirls gave the ball away 22 times overall.

Christal Caldwell led West Virginia 21 points, including 5-of-7 from 3. Averee Fields scored 19 for the Mountaineers.

OSU fell to 15-4 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12 while WVU improved to 12-8 and 4-5.

The Cowgirls return to the court on Saturday when they host No. 1 Baylor at 7 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
