Sooner Women Blast TCU After Slow Start

Posted: Updated:
NORMAN, Oklahoma -

It was a bleak start for the Oklahoma Sooners Wednesday night against TCU. The Sooners opened the game by missing eight consecutive shots, while TCU raced out to an 11-0 lead four minutes into the game.

Once the Sooners started hitting shots, the Horned Frogs never had a chance.

Oklahoma blew open a 30-27 halftime lead with a 24-4 run over the first seven minutes of the second half en route to a 74-53 runaway win over TCU.

Sharane Campbell scored 23 points to lead the Sooners, who played most of the second half without leading scorer Aaryn Ellenberg, who went down early in the second half with a left ankle injury. Ellenberg had X-rays taken in the locker room, but returned to the OU bench for the remainder of the game.

Head coach Sherri Coale said after the game Ellenberg would be off the ankle for a few days, but would be fine.

In Ellenberg's absence, Campbell took control from deep, hitting five-of-eight 3-point attempts, helping the Sooners shoot an impressive 13-of-28 from deep.

Nicole Griffin was the only other OU player in double figures with 11, but Morgan Hook and Nicole Kornet each added nine points. Joanna McFarland continued her impressive display on the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds for her 10th double-digit rebounding performance in the past 14 games.

Zahna Medley led the Horned Frogs with 18 points, while Veja Hamilton had 10 points and nine rebounds.

TCU shot a measly 27.8 percent from the field, including a woeful 7-of-29 performance from 3-point distance.

The Sooners are back in action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia at noon.
