City Of Tulsa Seeks Parks Accreditation; Public Meetings Planned

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Parks is in the process to become CAPRA accredited (Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies), the City of Tulsa announced Thursday.

The accreditation would make Tulsa the first municipality park system in Oklahoma to be hold the status.

CAPRA recognizes park and recreation agencies for excellence in operation and service. Accreditation is based on an agency's compliance with the 144 standards for national accreditation. CAPRA accreditation includes three phases after the application process: development of the agency self-assessment report, the on-site visitation, and the Commission's review and decision.

Tulsa Parks is currently preparing to apply for accreditation and will have two years to complete the three-phrase process.

There will be four citywide public meetings on Monday at 6 p.m. The purpose of the meetings is to develop a needs assessment questionnaire that will be used to determine what types of facilities and amenities the community would like to see for Tulsa Parks.

The meetings will use a Nominal Group Process where all citizens in attendance will have a chance to make their interests known.

The four meetings will be 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 11 at the following locations:

• Booker T. Washington High School, 1514 E. Zion

• Hale Junior High School, 2177 S. 67th E. Ave.

• Peggy Helmerich Library, 5131 E. 91st Street

• Silo Center/Cedar Rock Inn, 4501 W. 41st St.
