Oklahoma City University carded a round-one 325 and took a share of sixth place alongside Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Classic at Corpus Christi Country Club.
Play was suspended on the par-72, 6,093-yard course in the second round due to excessive wind. The Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA women's golf, finished the round eight shots behind tournament-leader Lamar and ahead of six NCAA Division I teams.
"I was proud of how the girls fought through the adversity today," OCU coach Marty McCauley said. "They kept a positive attitude and played hard until the end."
Freshman Abby Thompson, of Edmond, Okla., led the Stars with a round-one 78 to snag a share of seventh place. Thompson finished the first round five shots off the lead held by Danielle Lemek of Bradley.
Senior Jessica Schiele, of Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, posted a round-one 79 to earn a tie of 11th place. Junior Elia Folch, of Barcelona, Spain, finished the first round with a score of 84.
Senior Tanya Tibshraeny, of Westhaven, Kirkwood, South Africa, posted a score of 84 and fellow senior Mary Larsh, of Edmond, Okla., followed with a 91 to round out the Stars' top-5.
Senior Taylor Howard, of Ada, Okla., fired a round-one 77 to earn a share of fourth place while playing as an individual.
The Stars will return to action in the final round of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Classic Tuesday at Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.
