TPS Delays Switch To Continuous Learning Calendar

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Public Schools is still considering moving all schools to a continuous calendar, but the change won't happen this year.

Superintendent Keith Ballard told the school board Monday the district has too many other projects underway to make the switch this fall.

TPS believes the research shows the calendar shift alone doesn't help students learn, but adding teaching time during the breaks can.

"Being able to add those days into the break, so those students would get 10 to 15 more days in school, while the other students are on break; that could really help the kids who are falling behind, or who are on the cusp of being successful and just need that final push to become successful," said Chris Johnson, TPS Director of Accountability.

TPS is working with other districts in Tulsa County. The group believes all of the schools would switch to the new calendar at the same time.
