Such a B-E-A-utiful end to the workweek across this great state! Highs in the 70s yesterday and 80s today! This warm spell has many Oklahomans looking forward to spring, and all that goes along with it. Folks are ready to get out and start working in their flowerbeds and planting their gardens. I have had numerous viewer questions asking if we have seen the last of subfreezing temperatures. Yes, we have head spectacular weather for outdoor fun these past few days (minus the lack of much needed rain), but please keep in mind it is still March! Our average highs this time of year are the low 60s, and average lows are in the mid 40s. Our average final freeze in OKC is March 30th, but we have seen a freeze/frost as late as May 5th (1954). I have attached an image of the statewide average final freeze dates.

So what is our pattern looking like this year? Well we still have some cold weather on the way. Our next shot for subfreezing temps will be next weekend (March 23rd & 24th). This is beyond our 7-day forecast and is by no means locked in, and the exact numbers WILL change. However, data are suggesting another blast of polar air bringing in lows as cold as 20s in central OK, with low teens possible in far northern OK. I will be shocked if temperatures are actually that cold come next weekend, but I do want to give you a heads up that we may not have seen our final freeze just yet.

We are constantly analyzing the latest data as it becomes available, so stay with News 9, we'll keep you advised.
