New Barnsdall Police Chief Resigns Over Alleged DUI Crash

Posted: Updated:
OSAGE COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Barnsdall Police Chief Shane Davis, who was in an alleged DUI crash last week has resigned from duty, mayor J.D. Cole told News On 6.

On March 11 about 5 p.m., Davis' city police vehicle reportedly collided with trees on Oklahoma 11. Cole said Davis was running personal errands outside of town in a police SUV while he was off-duty, which is prohibited.

Davis had been chief of the department for about six months. He replaced the former chief, who also was in an alleged DUI crash and subsequently terminated.

In October 2012, former chief Matt Clark wrecked his personal vehicle in Bartlesville. At the time, BPD told News On 6 that crews had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue him from the one-car collision. According to the Bigheart Times, Clark's blood test returned as .24 – three times the legal limit.

Clark was officially charged last week with misdemeanor DUI in the case. He was rearrested days later and charged with driving on a revoked license. Clark is due back in Washington County District Court on April 10.

Cole said the assistant chief is now the interim chief, and there are typically three full-time officers and one part-time officer. The resignation means there are only two-full time officers working now.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has administered a blood test on Davis, and the investigation into his crash is still ongoing.
