PIEDMONT, Oklahoma -

A metro teacher in some big trouble. Police say she was trading prescription pills for methamphetamine. She's a teacher at Piedmont High School.

Oklahoma City Police arrested 37-year-old Misti Bynum. It happened in a traffic stop after undercover officers saw her leaving a well-known drug house in the southeast part of the city.

Police say her phone was lighting up with text messages from people looking to buy prescription drugs.

A woman, who didn't want to be identified, lives in Misti Bynum's quiet Edmond neighborhood.

“I just really couldn’t believe it,” said the woman. “I tried to get to know them a little bit, but they were just really quiet, and they kept to themselves.”

Last week, Bynum was about a half-hour away from home in the 6300 block of Ashby Terrace. Undercover officers were watching a known drug house here, and they followed Bynum's car as she left. She was speeding down I-40 with a brake light out, and police pulled her over.

Officers requested a drug dog sweep her car, and they found meth in her purse. Her cell phone, police say, had several messages indicating she was exchanging the prescription drug Lortab for methamphetamine.

We went to Bynum's home Tuesday, but no one answered the door. Like any parent, Bynum's neighbor is concerned.

“It’s kind of scary, you never know,” said a neighbor. “My son goes to Edmond North. You know, it’s a pretty good high school, but we lived in Piedmont at one time, so yeah, it opened my eyes.”

News 9 spoke with Piedmont Superintendent James White Tuesday afternoon. He said he just became aware of the issue yesterday.

White would not confirm whether Bynum is still employed there because it's a personnel issue.

“We’re doing everything within the law to ensure the safety and well-being of our students,” White said.

Bynum is facing charges for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
