A Howe teenager is dead following a Wednesday crash in rural Latimer County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the crash occurred on a county road about 4 miles south of Red Oak.

The trooper's report states the car was traveling eastbound at an "unsafe speed," when the driver, Chase Thompson, 16, of Red Oak, lost control, causing the car to go off the road and hit a tree.

His passenger, Dakota McCoy, 15, was thrown from the car upon impact.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.  Troopers say he is listed in stable condition.

The OHP report says neither Thompson nor McCoy were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
