Shock Remain Winless, Drop Second Straight Overtime Game

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK, New Jersey -

Cappie Pondexter buried a jump shot with 0.5 seconds in overtime to lift the New York Liberty to a 78-76 win over the Tulsa Shock.

It was the second overtime loss for the Shock, which lost to Washington at home on Monday night.

Glory Johnson had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but her layup was waved off by officials, saying it came just after the horn sounded.

The Shock welcomed back Nicole Powell and Candace Wiggins from injury Friday night, and Powell made an immediate impact, scoring 11 points and hitting three 3-pointers, including one with 11.1 seconds remaining in overtime to tie the game at 76.

Liz Cambage led the Shock with 22 points, while Johnson added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Essence Carson led New York with 18 points while Pondexter had 13 points.

The Shock struggled to shoot the ball all night, finishing by hitting just 29.3 percent from the field. Skylar Diggins went just 2-for-11 from the field, Wiggins went 1-for-8 and Roneeka Hodges was just 2-for-9, including 1-for-8 from behind the arc.

Diggins had a quiet game, but helped Tulsa rally from an eight-point first half deficit. She had all but one of her seven points in the second half.

Diggins hit a 3 to start the third quarter that began a 13-4 run. Hodges' 3 with 6:24 left in the period made it 42-41, giving Tulsa its first lead since early in the game.

The teams traded the lead over the remainder of the period and the Shock held a 52-51 lead at the end of the third.

Tulsa built a 67-63 lead with 2:52 left in regulation before the Liberty tied it on Carson's jumper with 2:10 to go.

Johnson's layup made it 69-67 with 52 seconds remaining. Carson then tied it again with a turnaround basket in the lane 15 seconds later.

Pondexter had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but her jumper from the top of the key bounced off the rim.
