EDMOND, Oklahoma -

An alleged thief tried to bribe a homeowner to hide out from police. Edmond Police chased the suspects from the Walmart near Danforth and Santa Fe into the Westborough subdivision.

The suspected shoplifter tried to dodge police by ditching the getaway car and making a run for it through this neighborhood.

"You know you just can't have your door open. You just can't. It's crazy times right now," said homeowner, Danielle Berkley.

Most days, Berkley keeps the house locked down. But she says Wednesday was not one of them.

"I heard the pattering like this stomping movement. He came in and ran right into the house he was hiding in the kitchen," said Berkley.

Berkley says Eric Storer didn't give a reason for the intrusion, instead he tried to pay her off not to turn him over to police.

"You offering me $200 to hide you. Really?" said Berkley.

Berkley refused to help the fugitive. She says that's when Storer ran out the backdoor and jumped the fence.

"It didn't get scary until afterwards, 'cause the realization kicked in just as I was fixing to harm him, he could have very well harmed all of us if he had a weapon of any kind. We were readymade hostages," said Berkley.

Edmond Police later informed Berkley both Storer and Andrew McKinley were suspected shoplifters from the nearby Walmart. Police say they loaded a 50" television into a shopping cart, wheeled it out of the garden center and tried to get away.

"I laughed first of all you are stealing from Wal-Mart. Wrong. And then not only are you going to Walmart to steal, but then you are in a stolen car."

Police caught up with both suspects, but Berkley is not taking any chances.

"I don't leave this door open [anymore]."

Police booked the men for grand larceny and eluding police.
