WEWOKA, Oklahoma -

While most high school kids take it easy this summer, the Wewoka High School Cheerleading squad is doing the opposite.

The girls are already practicing routines for the State Championships in September.

Wewoka won the Oklahoma Class 2A Cheerleading title last year and that performance drew the attention of the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. Officials there have invited the Wewoka squad to perform at halftime of the Alamo Bowl on December 30.

Wewoka Cheerleading Team Captain Laci Azlin says the team is ready for the challenge.

"I'm beyond excited.  To be able to go there and perform in front of all those people.  I'm real excited," she said.

Wewoka Cheerleading Coach Kathy Keesee says to her knowledge, Wewoka is the only Oklahoma high school that's been invited to cheer at any college bowl games this year.

"I'm proud, I'm very proud. From such a small town, to a bowl game, that's an amazing thing," she said.
