OKLAHOMA CITY -

A man pleaded guilty to severely beating his 12-year-old nephew, but despite the guilty plea, the boy's mother is still furious. She said he essentially received a slap on the wrist, and walked away.

This all happened after a fishing trip in April. We're told the uncle beat his nephew with a boat paddle, then tied him up and beat him with his hands.

"I cried first thing, and then I was mad and just angry," said Jessica Reinhart. "I feel like my son got robbed basically."

Reinhart believes her son's uncle got away with a crime that deserved a much stiffer penalty. She says 61-year-old Francis Baeriswyl lost his temper and severely beat her then 11-year-old son after a fishing trip. Monday morning, Baeriswyl pleaded guilty to domestic abuse and was ordered to pay a $250 fine.

Reinhart took pictures of her son's face after the beating. She said his bruises were so severe, he was asked to remain in in-school suspension, isolated from the rest of his classmates so he wouldn't be a distraction.

She admits her son, Thomas, has a history of behavioral issues, but she said there's no excuse for this kind of abuse.

"He kicked me in the back," Thomas Baeriswyl said.

Thomas said, toward the end of the trip, he began to argue with his uncle, and after some back talk the 61-year-old became very angry.

"And then he pulled me up by my hood, and threw me in the truck, and then I just got back and sat back down," said Thomas. "He tied me up, and he hit me in the forehead right there, and then threw my face into the ground."

"This is definitely one of those things," said Reinhart. "It could haunt you the rest of your life."

News 9 did reach out to Francis Baeriswyl's attorney. He did not wish to comment on this case.
