Gary has announced he will be handing over the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weather casts to David Payne after August 30. But he's not retiring from News9 merely changing his focus, as Vice President of Corporate Communications and Weather Development.
Seven Hundred of you sounded off on my FB page, expressing your appreciation for Gary's 41 years at the helm.
Dana in OKC wrote: "Congratulations to you Gary, ‘King of Weather Kings!'"
Kathy said: "You know the world just fell off its axis a little bit, right?"
Tamara said: "Knowing that Gary will have more time to study our crazy Oklahoma weather makes me feel secure!"
A lot of you shared Paula's sentiment: "I've always said that Oklahoma will go into mourning the day that Gary decides to retire."
And Dana in Stroud added: "I have tears in my eyes! But Gary so deserves this."
Greg from Moore wrote: "Dude. Gary on Twister. Rockstar."
Jennifer said: "When he would say ‘For you kids at home, this is what you need to do...' I know he was saying that just for me."
From Debbie: "If Gary wasn't worried, I wasn't worried."
Brian wants to know: "Who's gonna get VAL on the getner?"
Denise in Texas wrote: "Gary is the reason I know so much about weather. Saved me more than once when I moved down here and the Dallas stations didn't know how to tell a tornado from a summer breeze!"
And Buck in Edmond says: "August 30th will be a ‘Friday Night in the Big Town' to remember!"
