Golden Hurricane Ends Workout With Scrimmage

The Tulsa football team moved to H.A. Chapman Stadium for Tuesday's morning practice and ended the workout with a 45-minute situational scrimmage.

"We were able to scrimmage for about 45 minutes or so, and there was a healthy exchange," coach Bill Blankenship said. "We had some good plays on offense, good plays on defense. How I summarized it with our team: there were a lot more big plays by the offense, but too many turnovers. So, if you're on defense the encouraging thing is you generated turnovers, but you gave up too many big plays."

"There was some really good balance, and a couple of three-and-outs, but most of the time the offense was driving the ball. So I think as a total team, we got better."

Blankenship was encouraged that the offense was able to move the ball following two days of the defense controlling any scrimmage-type work. "You have to get to a point in fall camp or in spring when you're going against each other so much, where you really need to go back-and-forth some. Today, was certainly not an offensive domination by any stretch, but there were a lot more points scored and a lot more big plays than had been in the last couple practices."

Keyarris Garrett, Tulsa's 2012 leading receiver, returned to the practice field today after missing one week with an injury.

"It was nice to see Keyarris Garrett out there today. He made some plays," Blankenship said.

"Keevan Lucas made a nice play, and so did Ja'Terian Douglas. Offensively, those guys are the ones that immediately stand out. Shawn Jackson made some stops when the offense had achance to get away, and he was able to close it down. There were a couple of good plays in the secondary as well."

Blankenship also indicated the true freshman linebacker Devin Rolan has rejoined the Golden Hurricane football team. Rolan participated in summer school and summer conditioning, but elected not report to camp on August 2.
