OKLAHOMA CITY -

A metro mother is outraged after she says her 5-year-old son was left on a hot bus for at least 30 minutes. However, the daycare owners tell a slightly different story.

"I really feel that if I hadn't called when I did. He probably wouldn't be alive right now," said Stephanie Henderson.

Henderson says Wednesday was her son's first day of kindergarten, and his first day at a new day care. She says a phone call to check in on her son made her panic.

"They didn't know where he was," said Henderson.

Her son Shawn was left on the bus. Henderson says when he woke up he started banging on the windows trying to get someone's attention to let him out.

"And he was really scared and it was really hot in there," said Henderson.

"There's no excuse for it. I won't try and make an excuse for it. That's why you have to have double measures," said daycare owner, Linda Anglin.

Anglin says the teacher quickly realized she was short on her count.

"It was probably a couple of minutes, and when she realized he was gone she did look up," said Anglin. "This little guy was on the bus."

Anglin believes there's a big misunderstanding though when it comes to how long Stephanie's son was left on the bus. Stephanie says it was at least 30 minutes, and she had to take him to the emergency room as a precaution.

"I believe she was sorry for what she done, but it doesn't change what she done," Henderson said.

The driver of the bus will now be required to take more hours of training, and has been placed on 90-days probation. The daycare's other four drivers will also go through additional training.
