Human Remains Found In North Tulsa Woods, Police Focus On Missing Person

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Police say they have ended the search for human remains in the woods in North Tulsa after human bones were discovered Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say a person looking for a fishing pond came across some remains deep inside the woods east of Pickwick Arms Apartments, near North Garnett Road and East Archer Street.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office determined the remains to be a human pelvic bone. Police say other bones were found in the same area, and investigators have been searching the area for the past day and a half.

They called off the search Tuesday evening, saying the thick woods and heat and other factors made the search unproductive.

While the remains have not been identified, homicide investigators are focusing on a missing person, Oscar Garcia, Sr., 53, who was reported missing by his son on March 6, 2013.

Investigators say Garcia was last seen at the audio shop he owned - where he also lived - near 11700 East Admiral, which police say is within eyesight of the woods where the remains were found. Police say there were signs of a struggle inside the shop and Garcia's residence, and investigators found some blood evidence there.

Police say, although Oscar Garcia, Jr. was the one to report his father missing back in March, he was acting erratically around that time. Investigators talked to the son, who offered several scenarios of what might have happened to Oscar Garcia, Sr.

While the case is still a missing person's investigation, police say homicide investigators are assisting.
