TULSA, Oklahoma -

Cowboy fans have been up in arms since word of the Sports Illustrated investigation first made news. One of the biggest complaints has to do with the SI writers behind the investigation.

George Dohrmann and Thayer Evans are the two writers credited with breaking the story. Dohrmann has a Pulitzer Prize in his name, but Evans is the author that OSU fans say has an agenda against the Cowboys.

It's a cover story and 10-page article that has thrown Oklahoma State football for a loop. The investigation by George Dohrmann and Thayer Evans alleges the school committed academic fraud, provided sex to recruits, and boosters gave players money.

The two authors have come under fire by OSU fans.

We left several messages for both Dohrmann and Evans, but have not heard back.

Dohrmann won a Pulitzer Prize in 2000, after revealing academic fraud at the University of Minnesota. He appeared on the Doug Gottlieb Show on CBS Sports Radio on Tuesday.

Doug Gottlieb/CBS Sports Radio: "How credible do you believe the sources are?"

George Dohrmann/Sports Illustrated: "You know, I mean, very credible or we wouldn't, we wouldn't write these things."

But it's Thayer Evans who has Cowboy fans lathered up.

Robert Allen is an OSU broadcaster.

"His past has really been made up, primarily, of attacking schools--OSU being most prominent," Allen said.

Pistolsfiringblog.com has documented Evans' writing long before this investigation. It points to an article he wrote for Fox Sports in 2011, where he referred to Oklahoma State as "Chokie State."

Dohrmann said he's the one who wrote every word of the story, but Evans did a lot of the interviews and played a substantial role.

On the Doug Gottlieb Show, Dohrmann stood by the investigation and said this about the players who are now denying what's reported in Sports Illustrated: "All of those people who say they've been misquoted, their conversations were recorded. I've heard them, editors here have heard them, lawyers here have heard them, and we are absolutely comfortable that they were quoted accurately."

Also in Dohrmann's interview Tuesday on the Doug Gottlieb Show, he said they targeted OSU, because they kept coming up with more and more violations, all happening the same time as the football program began rising in national prominence.

He said no one was paid to talk with Sports Illustrated.
