Mighty Fine Weekend.

Posted: Updated:

Courtesy of the OK Mesonet, the 24 hour temperature change map on the right clearly shows how things have changed since this time yesterday. However, as warm as we have been so far this month we are long overdue for some cooler weather. We also picked up some badly needed moisture as the second map on the right shows the 24 hour rainfall totals across the state, also courtesy of the OK Mesonet.

The cool front that brought the rain and a return to more seasonable temperatures has pretty well pushed through the state this afternoon and any lingering light rain or showers will be ending this afternoon or early this evening as well. That will set the stage for a great evening for high school football with northerly winds up to 10 mph, no mention of rain, and temperatures generally in the 60s. Our skies will be clearing from W-E as the night wears on with fair skies by early Saturday morning.

The clear morning skies and light winds will also result in a cool start with morning lows in the low-mid 50s. Sunny skies all day Saturday and NE winds up to 10 mph will produce afternoon highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Look for more of the same on Sunday with a clear, cool start and lows in the 50s followed by sunny afternoon skies along with daytime highs near 80. However, our winds will be returning to a more E/SE direction during the day.

A more southerly wind is then expected for much of next week which will produce a return to much warmer than normal temperatures as the week wears on. In fact, we should be in the upper 80s by late in the week. Our nights will also be getting warmer during the week, but moisture will be limited and there is currently no mention of rain. In fact, the bottom map on the right is the 7 day QPF which keeps us pretty much high and dry through that period.

However, the longer range guidance suggests another cool front will likely arrive along about Friday or early Saturday of that next week with our next chance for rain and also a return to more seasonable temperatures. Wouldn't you know, just in time for the state fair.

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
