OKLAHOMA CITY -

Wastewater treatment plants all over the U.S. are having issues with "flushable wipes." The product has become much more popular in the last decade, and that's one of the factors.

Oklahoma City Utilities Spokesperson Debbie Ragan says flushable wipes take longer to break down in the sewer system than toilet paper.

But Ragan says the real problem is people flush all kinds of things down the toilet they shouldn't.

"Paper towels, toilet scrubs, cigarettes, cotton swabs. Toilets are made for two things, and toilet paper," she said.

We checked with other local municipalities, including Edmond, Moore and Reno, and all three said they weren't seeing this problem, yet.
