Week 4 High School Football Locker Room

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

The fourth week of the high school football season is here and with it comes the start of district play for a lot of the state. The stakes are officially heightened as the race for coveted playoff spots begins across all of Oklahoma. The slate of games doesn't boast as many big-name matchups, but with district play kicking off, every game is huge.

As usual, we need your help to gather the scores from all the games across the state each week. There are plenty of ways to do that, so help us out and send us the score from whichever game you're at each week.

We're previewing some of the biggest games around the state this week.

Union at Owasso

There's a revenge factor when Tulsa Union (1-2) goes to Owasso (1-2) on Friday. Last year the Rams took the District 6A-1 opener from the Redskins 38-35. Union, coming off a 38-21 win against Broken Arrow, hopes to return the favor.

Sophomore running back Tyler Adkins trucked his way to 232 yards and three touchdowns against the Tigers last week. Senior receiver Jeffery Mead hauled in 102 yards receiving in a game where the Redskins trailed 14-0 early.

Owasso is coming off a 45-28 loss to Jenks. Rams quarterback Gabe Neph threw for 345 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 46 yards and another score, but Owasso's defense couldn't contain Jenks quarterback Cooper Nunley (accounted for five touchdowns) or stop the Trojans on the ground (214 yards rushing allowed).

Both teams have had two opponents in common. Union beat Broken Arrow and lost to Jenks. Owasso lost to both the Tigers and Trojans.

Lawton at Edmond Memorial

One of the biggest clashes in 6A this week takes place in Edmond when undefeated Lawton travels to take on 2-1 Edmond Memorial to open up district play.

The Bulldogs have continued their run of strong play dating back to last season. After losing the first five games of the year, Memorial rattled off four wins in the last five games to make the playoffs at 4-6. The Bulldogs opened this season by shutting out Edmond North and then dump-trucked Deer Creek on the road last week.

The Wolverines are rebuilding this year after missing the playoffs last season with a 6-4 record. Three of Lawton's four losses in district play came by five points or less.

Lawton hasn't faced a ton of competition yet this season, blowing out Eisenhower and Altus, sandwiched around a convincing win over MacArthur.

The game will be a great matchup between the top two rushers in class 6A. Lawton's Mike Warren is the leader, racking up 655 yards and eight touchdowns through three games. On the other side, Warren Wand of Memorial has accumulated 546 yards and five touchdowns in the first three games of the year.

This will be a battle between two great rushing offenses and could go a long way to determine the district 4-6A race.
