Claremore Woman, 76, Dies From Injuries After 3-Vehicle Crash

A three-vehicle crash in Rogers County killed a Claremore woman and sent a teenager to the hospital on Thursday evening, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about a half-mile north of County Road 470 on Highway 88 on the northwest side of Claremore just before 4 p.m. County Road 470 is also known as Lowery Road.

Investigators said a white 2011 Chevrolet Cruze was northbound on 88 and was attempting to make a left turn into a private drive when it was rear-ended by a red 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The OHP says the Santa Fe was driven by 17-year-old Kierstin Stapleton of Oologah.

The impact caused the SUV to spin 360 degrees. It came to rest facing northbound in the southbound lane, the OHP said.

The white car, driven by Nathan Hammack, 17, of Oologah, was pushed into the southbound lanes where it collided head on with a gold 2004 Lexus ES300.

The driver of the Lexus, 76-year-old Doris Starr, of Claremore, was pinned in her car for about 20 minutes before she was extricated by firefighters using the Jaws of Life.

Starr was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.

Hammack also was taken to a hospital. The OHP said he was stable with head, trunk internal and arm injuries.

Stapleton and her passenger, 17-year-old Mariah Sumter, of Oologah, did not seek medical treatment on scene.

Troopers say all five people were using their seatbelts.
