OKLAHOMA CITY -

The recent popularity of food trucks in Oklahoma City is spurring one local charity to hit the road, and add a new sort of outreach to its menu of services.

The mission of No Boundaries International is to help stop the sexual exploitation of women, and the non-profit is now planning to put that mission on wheels.

"Looks like it's not in too bad of shape," remarked Lori Basey, commenting on the condition of the organization's recently-purchased food truck.

Basey, the president and co-founder of No Boundaries, says the truck needs some help, but it is just what she wanted.

"Somebody asked me one day, if you could have anything, what would it be for the ministry," Basey recalled, "and I said, a food truck -- and I don't even cook."

Just like the young women No Boundaries serves, Basey says the truck can be redeemed and given new purpose. It will serve food, but not for anyone's financial benefit. All the rewards, she says, will go to the increasing number of women who are victims of human traffickers, and forced to work the streets.

"Our vision was to go out into the trafficked areas, and where there are runaways and where the girls are being prostituted, and be able to offer free food."

Basey says this sort of mobile outreach is one way to get the organization out on the same streets where prostitution is happening.

"Instead of expecting people to come to us for services and intervention, we want to go, literally, to where they are."

Basey and her group realize it will take a lot of resources to get the truck ready, and they are grateful to the mechanics at Casey Automotive in Edmond, for their help in getting the truck road ready.

"We are talking about thousands of dollars mechanically to get everything up to speed."

But Basey is optimistic. After all, the truck itself was an answer to a prayer, and the group has a strong appetite to serve.

"Truly," said Basey, "the best way to a person's heart is through their stomach."

To raise money for the truck, a group of students from Southern Nazarene University has organized a benefit concert titled "Night of Redemption."

The concert is Tuesday, November 12 at 8 p.m. at the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, located at 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway in Bethany.

Tickets are $12.
