Volunteer Group From Illinois Builds Home For Little Axe Tornado Victim

A group of volunteers from Illinois has made a dream come true for a family that lost their home in the May 19 tornado. The family of eight has lived in tents, shacks and a camper, but in just 10 short days, they will move into a 1,900 sq. ft. home.

"Forty-eight hours ago this was basically nothing more than a foundation," explained Ryan Johnson, Executive Director of One Family One Purpose. "Every person here is doing it out of the goodness of their heart."

Johnson and the 50 or so volunteers have not been paid. They decided to put in their own time after hearing Cathy Talbott's story. For months, the mother of seven had no idea how she and her family would survive.

The community came together to help her out as best they could, but she and her kids lived in conditions almost like a third world country. All of that changed when this group of volunteers stepped in for the build.

"Over the last three months we have gone to churches, businesses, individuals and they have given to make sure that she has no obligation, financially, so this is a free and clear home. It's pretty special," said Johnson.

The house will be completed and dedicated on Dec. 14.
