TULSA, Oklahoma -

The City of Tulsa is encouraging residents to recycle all their holiday trash this year.

Tulsa officials hope residents will dispose of recyclable trash properly. The city has a complete list of what can and cannot be recycled on its web site.

All of Tulsa's recycling goes into a machine for sorting.  It is called "Mr Murph" by the company that runs it, American Waste Control.

"You can put in greeting cards, non-metallic wrapping paper, we can take cardboard boxes, everything else we ask that you put in your trash container," said Paul Ross, American Waste Control.

"We don't want your lights, your metallic wrapping paper, your tinsel and ribbons; it's better for that to be incinerated and turned into energy than it is for it to come here and possibly contaminate the materials here that we're trying to recover."

The plant is located at 1150 North Peoria.

If the item you want to discard is electronic, the M.E.T. depot at 3495 South Sheridan is the location you will need to use.

When it comes to the disposal of your Christmas tree, the City of Tulsa says you can place the tree at the curb, and city crews will pick it up and take it to the yard waste facility.

They do ask that you make sure each tree is free of all ornaments, tinsel, lights and no plastic wrap. The tree must be no longer than 6 feet, if it is, cut it up into pieces less than 6 feet long, to be picked up on your primary collection day.
