A controlled burn was anything but near the town of Tuttle, Okla., Sunday evening.

The fire got out of hand near 10500 S. Cimarron Rd. At its peak the fire managed to jump the Canadian River. No structures were threatened.

The blaze covered several acres, but as of 10 p.m. fire crews tell News 9 that the majority of the fire has been contained and crews are working to douse hot spots.

Oklahoma City Fire Crews were still battling those hot spots close to 11 p.m. According to scanner traffic, crews were trying to use water sparingly, and just let the fire burn itself out.

It is unclear who scheduled the controlled burn on a day with high-fire danger.
