A thin blanket of snow was just enough to cause weather-related crashes throughout the Oklahoma City metro Tuesday. Spinouts were common on city streets during the morning hours. Much of the frosty mess was cleared out by mid-afternoon, paving way for an easy evening commute.

The dusting forced El Reno Public Schools to close for the day, allowing nearly 2,500 students to enjoy a snow day.

"I think it's pretty good … to be safe, but then at the same time, we need to be in school," El Reno sophomore Isaiah Majka said.

At 4:30 Tuesday morning, superintendent Craig McVay was busy monitoring the roads and talking with city police and state troopers. Tuesday marks the fourth time this school year El Reno has closed for weather.

"One of the easiest decisions made in this office is whether or not to have school in bad conditions," said McVay.

Tuesday morning's cold snap had Oklahoma City Public Schools sending a tweet, reminding parents schools were open. A new policy now allows the state's largest school district to close when temperatures plunge to 10 degrees or below.
