SAPULPA, Oklahoma -

All aboard the Eastern Flyer! The first passenger train service from the Tulsa area to Oklahoma City in about 50 years is setting forth Sunday morning. The sold out Eastern Flyer departed from Sapulpa early Sunday morning, February 9.

A crowd of folks stood in line to board the train which is operated by Stillwater Central Railroad. The company normally provides freight service to more than 20 customers but is teaming with Iowa Pacific passenger service for a special three-run journey across the Sooner State.

News On 6 is proud to be a part of the first run as passengers take to the rails for a return of '50s and '60s style travel.

Iowa Pacific hopes to eventually operate out of both Oklahoma City and Tulsa with eight round trips per day. The train has two other trips scheduled for this month, but tickets sold out quickly.

Passengers will have several hours in Oklahoma City to tour the Bricktown, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum or go to a Thunder game. The train returns to Sapulpa at about 8 p.m.
