Tulsa Police are investigating a possible shaken baby case. Detectives say a child is still in the hospital more than a week after the baby first showed signs of severe trauma.

Police don't believe the abuse happened at home, instead, they're zeroing in on a home daycare operator.

Tulsa Police have not released the condition of the baby, or the name of the daycare. But the Department of Human Services confirmed that the daycare has voluntarily shut down during this investigation.

It's rare for a child to survive this level of abuse, but we spoke with another mother who's been living for years with the life-changing consequences a case like this could have.

Misty Amerine describes her son, K.C., as an 18 month old trapped in a 14-year-old's body.

"We can't do a lot of things like normal children do. We can't go out and play just anytime."

Two months after K.C.'s first birthday, his babysitter abused him.

"She shook him and threw him into a portable play pen, which equaled a 15-foot fall on his head," Amerine said. "Walked in, found him lifeless on his babysitter's lap."

K.C. was rushed to the hospital. Doctors said his chances to survive were less than 25 percent. But after a number of surgeries, Amerine's miracle baby beat the odds.

"He's got a lot of his momma in him. Survival," Amerine said.

Now, the little boy who was able to stand just days before the attack, can no longer stand on his own. He can't talk, and relies solely on his mother, who lives every day in fear.

"One day he's just going to have a seizure and never wake back up again. We never know. It's day by day," Amerine said.

K.C.'s babysitter, Linda Prince, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for injuring him.

"Very angry. Very angry. He's got a life sentence. She don't. I've got a life sentence. She don't," said Amerine.

DHS said it is currently investigating a similar case in the Tulsa area, but will not provide specific details.

When asked how she felt about other shaken baby cases, Amerine said, "I personally want to hunt them down and kill them."

We know this was a small home daycare with no more than seven children.
