PIEDMONT, Oklahoma -

Both Oklahoma City police and the Canadian County DA's office are calling the weekend stabbing death of a 4-year-old boy a tragic accident.

It happened over the weekend at a home near Piedmont, located in the 13,000 block of Deer Creek Drive.

The family is just reeling from what happened. They did not want to talk on camera, but did speak to News 9 Crime Tracker Adrianna Iwasinski by phone.

The father says they were just enjoying a beautiful Saturday afternoon with family in from out of state when the unthinkable happened.

Now, he just wants everyone to remember his beautiful 4-year-old boy. Bralyn Shively had just blown out the candles on his birthday cake the week before. Little did the family know it would be the last birthday they would celebrate.

Bralyn's father says his 4-year-old son was one of six children, but that he felt no sibling rivalry and considered all of his brothers and sisters to be his best friends.

The family had just moved into their home in Piedmont two months ago. A house they considered to be their dream home.

And it was on this past Saturday, that the family was out enjoying the beautiful day when tragedy struck. Bralyn's father says the kids were huddled around their favorite uncle, who was in from out of town.

A master woodworker, he was always whittling something. And it was while he was laying in a hammock whittling in the backyard, that a string on the hammock snapped and Bralyn somehow fell unto the knife.

"When officers arrived, they found paramedics trying to revive the child, work on the child," said Msgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City police department. "Ultimately they transported the child to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead."

The father says that favorite uncle did everything he could to save his son. Funeral arrangements and a memorial fund are pending.

The Canadian County District Attorney's office confirms no criminal charges will be filed in this case.

The Shively family also released this statement to News 9 Monday afternoon:

"Little Bralyn, at age 4, was full of life. His sweet spirit radiated for all to see. Bralyn showed love on his family and friends, and everyone loved him. He called his brothers and sisters his best friends. If you asked him what he was doing, he would respond ‘playing with my best friends.' Bralyn was loving, imaginative, intuitive, spontaneous and feisty. Bralyn is such a blessing to us, and we love him very much! We miss him terribly, and his passing has left an emptiness in our lives. Bralyn was a huge part of our family, a void we will never fill. The only thing that helps is knowing our family will be together again in heaven."
