TULSA, Oklahoma -

Police have identified the man shot and killed during a drug search at a north Tulsa home early Tuesday evening and the officer who shot him.

The Tulsa Police Department said Deandre Lloyd Starks, 27, was shot and killed by Sergeant Mark Wollmershauser Jr. when he and officers served a search warrant for drugs at a home in the 200 block of East Young Street.

Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker said as officers approached the home, people who were sitting on the porch ran inside. The group didn't comply with officer demands to get on the floor and show their hands, Walker said.

One person attempted to jump out an window, but was met by officers outside, and four of the five others were controlled inside, Walker said in a news release.

Starks, however, was found in another room and failed to comply with commands, Walker said.

"Starks made movements with his body and hands that officers deemed a threat to them. One shot was fired by an officer with the special investigation division," Walker said.

After Starks had been shot, officers took life-saving measures, the release says.

Starks was transported by EMSA to a local hospital, where he died from the gunshot wound.

Walker said the search netted a substantial amount of illegal dangerous drugs inside the house and on Starks.

Court records show Starks was convicted in 2005 on two drug-related charges. He was sentenced to prison for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled and dangerous substance. He was released from prison in 2012.

Wollmershauser, 32, is currently on Administrative Leave with pay.

Police said their investigation into the shooting continues.
