EL RENO, Oklahoma -
Recovery efforts continue
in El Reno almost a year after the May 31 tornado caused major damage. On
Saturday volunteers worked at Youth and Family services, that provides
emergency shelter for abused and neglected kids.
This really is an example
of a small project going a long way for these kids that need a place where they
can find a sense of normalcy. From the ground up more than a hundred volunteers
make a vision come true.
Kids from all over the
community designed the playground for other kids who don't have anywhere else
to go.
Youth and Family services
continues rebuilding, almost a year after the May 31 tornado took out their
building. The new playground is a big part for the kids in the shelter.
The construction of the
playground is an improvement. The changes wouldn't be possible without
community support. Today the majority of volunteers are from Devon Energy. And
there's no doubt this playground will get a ton of use.
The playground was
finished Saturday afternoon. Kids staying in the shelter will be able to use
the equipment in the next few days after the ground and concrete settle.
Nine kids were in the
shelter when the tornado hit, but they were in a safe room and nobody was hurt.
