RedHawks Fall To New Orleans

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

The New Orleans Zephyrs scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to secure a 4-3 come-from-behind win against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Wednesday in front of a crowd of 3,561 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks (48-46) held a 3-2 advantage through seven innings before suffering their fourth loss of the season when leading after seven frames.

Josh Rodriguez led off the eighth inning with a single for New Orleans (46-47), then scored on a line drive triple to center field by Jordany Valdespin to knot the game, 3-3.

Mark Canha followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Valdespin and put the Zephyrs in front, 4-3.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Brian Flynn allowed three runs over the first three innings and 10 hits through the first six innings before the New Orleans bullpen shut down the RedHawks offense. Zephyrs pitchers Donnie Joseph (2-1), Collin Cargill and Arquimedes Caminero combined to allow one hit the rest of the way.

The RedHawks scored first Wednesday.

Marc Krauss hit a towering two-run home run into the upper deck of the right field stands to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The homer was the fifth of the season for Krauss with the RedHawks.

The Zephyrs answered with a homer of their own in the third inning.

A two-run shot to left field by Matt Angle tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the third frame.

The RedHawks quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the third, however.

Ronny Torreyes led off with a single for one of his game-high three hits. Krauss was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to put runners on first and second for Domingo Santana. Santana brought home Torreyes with a single to give the RedHawks a 3-2 lead.

Preston Tucker came up to bat next and singled. Krauss was tagged out at home plate on the throw from center field to Zephyrs catcher Kyle Skipworth to maintain the one-run margin.

New Orleans took the lead in the top of the eighth inning and went on to take a 2-1 lead in the four-game series.

Pitcher Alex White made his first start of the season for the RedHawks and tossed three innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out three.

Reliever Richard Rodriguez joined the RedHawks from Corpus Christi and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Jorge De Leon (2-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save, allowing two runs on three hits over the final three innings.

The RedHawks conclude their four-game series with Iowa at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
