Former Broken Arrow Star Gets Year-Long Suspension At Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Missouri -

Former Broken Arrow safety turned Missouri wide receiver Levi Copelin has been suspended by the NCAA for the 2014 season for using a supplement on the NCAA’s banned substance list.

The Columbia Tribune reports that under NCAA bylaws an athlete who tests positive for a banned substance cannot apply for reinstatement until he or she has been ineligible for at least a calendar year.

"This supplement is legal and available to the public, but it isn’t approved by the NCAA, and as a result of using it, I failed an NCAA drug test," Copelin said in a statement. "This was a stupid mistake on my part, and I’m very sorry that I put myself and my team in this situation. This is a hard lesson to learn, as I never had the wrong intentions.”

Copelin was listed third on the Tigers’ depth chart at receiver entering fall camp. Mizzou returns just 26 percent of its receiving yards from last year’s squad. The most notable departure, of course, is Dorial Green-Beckham, now at Oklahoma. Copelin and DGB were arrested together along with linebacker Torey Boozer on Oct. 3, 2012 on suspicion of marijuana possession. All three were suspended for a game.

Copelin also has a court date next week for a Jan. 23 arrest at the Missouri campus ID center for disturbing the peace and allegedly making threatening comments to the staff.
