Owasso residents turned out to discard outdated electronics and help their needier neighbors at the Owasso Community Resources E-Cycle event Saturday.
It was a first-time event for the community assistance group that provides food, job assistance and emergency financial support. Executive director Randy Cowling said many people have the mistaken idea that there aren't needy families in the city.

"We have a lot of people that are just making it paycheck to paycheck, so we're able to help them with food. Everyone deserves to have food on the table every night," he said.
United Recyclers will tear down the old VCRs, fax machines and other outdated tech and recycle it, he said. The business was to make a donation of up to $5,000 to OCR for holding the event. Cowling said they collected around 1,100 items.
