RedHawks Roll Past El Paso

Posted: Updated:

The Oklahoma City RedHawks hit a PCL season-high four triples as they rolled to a 10-2 win against the El Paso Chihuahuas Saturday in front of a crowd of 10,654 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Three of the RedHawks triples came in the fifth inning as Oklahoma City earned a series split in their four-game set against El Paso.

The RedHawks (70-66) entered the game trailing American Northern Division leader Omaha by two games in the standings. Omaha was scheduled to play in Tacoma late Saturday.

Joe Sclafani finished the night 4-for-5, setting a personal season high for hits and extending his on-base streak to 38 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in the PCL this season and the longest since the RedHawks' affiliation with the Astros began in 2011.

Matt Duffy and Domingo Santana each finished the night with three hits apiece, as the RedHawks outhit El Paso, 18-7.

The RedHawks scored in the first inning, and went on to build an 8-0 lead through five frames.

Jonathan Villar led off the bottom of the first with the RedHawks' first triple of the night on a grounder to right field. Sclafani then hit a RBI single to left field to give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead.

A two-out RBI single by Carlos Perez in the bottom of the second inning gave the RedHawks a 2-0 lead. Max Stassi stepped up to bat next and connected on a two-run homer to center field. The home run was Stassi's third homer in the last four games.

Santana singled to center field and Duffy scored on a throwing error on the play to put the RedHawks ahead, 5-0, in the third inning.

The RedHawks then hit three triples in the fifth inning to open up an 8-0 lead.

Santana and Andrew Aplin hit back-to-back RBI triples with one out, and Perez added a third triple with two outs to bring home the eighth run of the night for the RedHawks.

A two-run double by Tyler Greene got El Paso (64-70) on the board, and cut Oklahoma City's lead to 8-2 in the top of the sixth.

Duffy drove in two more runs for the RedHawks in the bottom of the eighth on a single to right field to extend Oklahoma City to a 10-2 lead.

The RedHawks scored at least 10 runs in a game for the third time this month.

Oklahoma City's pitching staff combined to strikeout 10 El Paso batters.

RedHawks starting pitcher Nick Tropeano (9-5) allowed two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings in the win. He issued one walk and struck out four. Paul Clemens, Tommy Shirley and David Martinez combined to hold El Paso scoreless over the final three innings, striking out six Chihuahuas batters.

El Paso starting pitcher Robbie Erlin (0-1) was charged with the loss.

The RedHawks open their final home series of the regular season, a four-game set against the Albuquerque Isotopes, at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Select players will be available for autographs prior to the game, and kids can run the bases after the game.
