REPORTS: Bradford To Miss Entire 2014 Season With ACL Tear

Posted: Updated:

Sam Bradford and the Rams' fears appear to have been confirmed on Sunday.

Bradford, the former Sooner great and St. Louis Rams starting quarterback, appears to have suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his surgically repaired left knee after an MRI, according to multiple reports.

The injury occurred in the first quarter after Bradford was hit by Cleveland defensive end Armonty Bryant. Bradford limped off the field under his own power and the organization expressed initial optimism that the injury wasn't severe after the contest.

The Putnam City North product missed the final nine games of the 2013 season after tearing his ACL in the same knee.

Bradford also dealt with injuries with the Sooners. He was hurt in the 2009 season opener against BYU, suffering a third-degree AC joint sprain only to return ahead of schedule three weeks later and lead the Sooners to a 33-7 victory against Baylor. However, Bradford re-injured his right shoulder in the following game against rival Texas and missed the remainder of the season after being forced to undergo surgery to repair the damage.

He left OU after the year and was taken by St. Louis with the No. 1-overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. Bradford has had health concerns in his time with the Rams, as well, missing six games in 2011 and nine last year.

Bradford had played well in the first two preseason games and appeared to finally have the weapons around him to flourish but, according to these initial reports, he is set to miss all 16 contests this season, potentially putting his future with the organization in jeopardy with one year remaining on his six-year, $78-million contract.
