Cold air is the headline this morning with morning lows in the upper single digits and lower to mid-teens. Afternoon highs will be a little warmer today compared to yesterday, but still well below the normal averages across the region. Afternoon highs will move into the lower to mid-40s today along with sunshine and light southwest winds. The general trend for a gradual warm-up will remain into the weekend as several storm systems will be impacting the region. Rain and thunderstorms will be likely Saturday.
After a chilly morning, including some new daily record lows, we're heading into the lower or even mid-40s this afternoon with sunshine and light southwest winds. This could be one of the better weather days we've experienced in a while!
A weak front will move across the area Tuesday night late into Wednesday mid-morning with no precipitation and basically a wind shift out of the northwest for a few hours. A down-sloping component to the wind should off-set any major temp change, and we'll anticipate Wednesdays highs in the upper 40s or even a few lower 50s.
The first wave will approach from the south Thursday night into Friday morning with a few showers possible across eastern OK and western Arkansas. This probability remains somewhat low at this point and will be represented with a 20% pop on the 7 day planner. We may need to increase this slightly due to a higher coverage across extreme eastern or southeastern OK. Temps with this system will not support wintry weather.
The second wave and stronger wave will approach Saturday also from the south with increasing rain and thunderstorm chances. Most models have been consistent with this feature and our pops have increased for the with rain and a few embedded thunderstorms likely. The instability will be supportive of some thunder but no severe weather will occur. Temps Saturday will top out in the lower 50s with south winds.
We could have some left-over precip Sunday morning for a few hours across extreme northeastern OK but this chance is fairly low.
Models also support another surge of very cold air arriving late Sunday night into Monday of next week with strong north winds and highs back into the 40s early next week. We may see another front approaching just before Thanksgiving with more cold air.
